>Final Fantasy IV Complete
I disagree, I think the best version of Final Fantasy IV is the DS version.

Also possibly one of the best remakes I have ever played (and among my top games). It eliminated the COPIOUS amounts of enemies on the screen and was just a more overall finished product and the fact it actually made its way to North America unlike the original.

It is impossible to talk about great remakes and not mention Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song.

A phenomenal remake of an early SNES game.

It adds in mechanics from later games such as sparking (learning skills mid battle), combination attacks, field skills, fixes the amount of enemies on the field (they aren't swarming like a cloud of locusts), changed the quest system so it isn't just static quests but quests come and go depending upon what you do and how "far" you are into the game, added in a simplistic but interesting black smithing system, a new song along with all of the old music redone by the original composer.

This is how remakes should be, not just a graphical and sound type one with a couple post-game dungeons or something, but something that is familiar along with changing many fundamental things, or adding new mechanics, especially for the better.

>playing a remake without having played and mastered the original
Nothing wrong with that.

Honestly this is my favorite remake. I believe all JRPG remakes should be like this. It isn't just a sound and graphical overhaul with just a couple new end game side dungeons, it completely revamped the battle system to include aspects that came in later games such as combination attacks and learning skills mid battle. Added in crafting with item durability, battle points during battle, new music from Kenji Ito. Honestly I haven't played the original SNES one, but this remake was god tier because of how much it incorporated from later games.

I'd love to see the same thing happen to Romancing SaGa 2, 3, and SaGa Frontier.
