I know there is also Beelzebub, but I don't want my D1 turned into D2.

The Hell 2 newer versions have an easy mode where you can run away from battles and use portals and save. It is sort of the way to good. I made it to level 8 with a good balance. Almost dying almost every level, but dying rarely. Good challenge. Makes you take things very strategically. But then I hit a wall where I couldn't get beyond a set of stairs despite pumping here and now for 4 extra levels. So it still has difficulty issues that make you roll a new map and regrind areas for potions.

And IDing equipment is still broken. Everything sells for nothing, so you lose money looking at gear. I just started save scumming and the game was STILL too hard.

Really cool content though. I will probably restart the guy at level 6 and try again later.

Sorcerer scales to being pretty OP by the end of single player, especially if you're going back up to town frequently and buying books.

Playing the warrior is a nice difference from D2 because you really have to learn the AI and be strategic about drawing off mobs and cornering succubi and councilors.

D1 plays more like a rouge-lite, since enemies don't respawn, so each playthrough is different. Trying to run it without going back to town, or only going back up every 4 levels is also fun.

Quests are randomized so you only see about 60% during each playthrough. If you had the Butcher your first time through, replay as a rouge.or warrior and keep restarting until you see the water next to Cain is brown. This means you got a separate batch of quests. There are three quest tracks you can get per game. Poison water and no Butcher is the most different from Butcher and no water.

Skeleton King, Archbishop Lazurus, and Diablo are the only static quests. You got Zar the Mad, Garbad the Weak, Griswold's Edge, the Magic Rock, The Butcher, the Poison Water Supply, the Chamber of Bone, the Halls of the Blind, the Warlord of Blood, Lachardanin, Alaine's Valor, the Black Mushroom, etc.

Hellfire gives you the Hive and Crypt, which aren't the best quests, but give some cool new areas.

The Hell 2 adds a lot of stuff but is pretty hard and grindy. I would play a monk, archer, or barbarian in The Hell 2 since sorcerer is hard to play with all the hot keys and immunities. If you just ignore traits and go for the exp perk bonuses and extra stats per level up it isn't too complicated. It has quality of life stuff like running when not in combat, weapon swap hot keys (you'll need them for a melee vs elemental defense load out), and other cool stuff. It is a good deal harder, but not so much if you save a lot. It adds some support spells like Fury, which bumps up attacks and stats, that make the warrior a bit more dynamic.

The Hell 2 has your run when not in combat. Basically it is fast and slows when an AI gets active.

The game itself isn't really quicker though because it's harder so you have to save more and will die more often.

The Hell 2 inventory.

Gloves and boots not. Grid system makes for more strategic combat than D2. Plus D1 was always harder.
