It's the best game in the series. The worst thing is that even people who claim to enjoy the game think a fan-translation of the unplayable GBA port is the "definitive" experience, total madness.

I'm not a fan of the new graphics; I'm one of the few who think the 'prototype' is basically perfect. That said, I have been poking around with that newer hack that keeps the old graphics (uncensored JP sprites, etc) and a truncated version of Mato's script, which I think is pretty rad so far. But having played Sandhop's localization as my first MOTHER game, I really like that script.

GBA port is fine, but Mato's translation has been hacked (within cart size limits) into the NES version too. Also the original version is not so difficult that you need an easy ring, I never understood that.

Hi I just wanted to say fuck that 'MOTHER 4' fan-game. Looks like it will never be released at this point though. so I can probably stop being so pissed about it. Maybe they'll get C&D'd.

Anyone else like MOTHER 1 the best of all 3?

To go the opposite direction, I think the Famicom version of MOTHER/Earth Bound, is way better than the GBA version. Same for MOTHER 2/EarthBound as well. You can't just take a tile based game and remove the tile-based movement. It's like Ninten is ice-skating around the entire world. That and the soundtrack is truly a mess, considering how fantastic the Famicom one is.

If by buggy you mean not fully translated than yes. Also both ports are garbage. The soundtrack to MOTHER is unlistenable, and they removed the tile-based movement so it feels like a flash game. The translation is considered 'better' than the actual NOA localization by a lot of starmen.netters, for what that's worth. The GBA just can't do SNES games justice so it's a weak port of MOTHER 2 in general. Now that both original games are available on the Wii U and like, for free on the Internet, there's no reason to play the GBA version. It's kinda cute tho, I actually just sold my copy that I also for for $4 on AliExpress.
