Kinda non-retro:am I the only one feels that very few games that try to accomplish that "90s style" accomplished that?

Too many of them go for a level design that reseambles Serious Sam with costant arenas and less looking for keys or exploring the enviroment.
Now the gameplay department,they surely made big leaps in terms of gameplay but even art-wise too many feel "pretentious".

"Nightmare Reaper" and "Dusk" are good but graphics wise they look worse than a game from the 90s.
"Ultrakill" and "Hrot" actually feel like something that could've come out during that era.
But that's the minority.

This constant memeing "le boomer shooter" and yet it doesn't even feel like they understand the core design choices they boast about so much.
