It was QSS for me due to lack of Vulkan support, but Ironwail seems to catch up. It's gonna get CSQC support for HUDs even, which is nice. So there's one more reason for me to try it out since my lazy ass is sticking to re-release currently due to braindead bots for deathmatch.
By the way, is QuakeC a good starting point for learning C/C++/C#? Asking for myself and/or (as I'm cunt who can't do shit) my friend that's getting into gamedev. It's more likely that he'll actually do something meaningful, but I suggested him to make some maps for Quake or other retro vidya as practice.

>"retro" game
I mean, current VR rules are actually perfect about that. Although I would say that sixth generation is more of a transition period between retro and modern. I think it's best to keep seventh as the beginning of modern as that's when indies really started to shine. And I also try to refer to older titles as "classic" as "retro" actually means "imitation of older thing", but it is what it is.

Also, anon... I think Tom Hall might do something for DOOM's 30th anniversary:
>Have you thought about making a Doom WAD level set yourself in recent times? With a limit removing port, of course.
>If there was only an anniversary that would be cool for.....
>I mean, the thirtieth anniversary is coming up next year… 30 years of Doom!
>"Winking face"
https://twitter.com/ThatTomHall/status/1545569887103307776
...and Tom "Paradox" Mustaine from Hipnotic/Ritual (whatever you prefer; made most SoA levels and some for SiN) is apparently getting back into Quake mapping.

i am actually still recovering from that even after 2-3 years, first time was because of an online shooter, it gotten so bad that i couldn't play any other game for more than 10 minutes without closing the game, it took me a whole year to recover from this.
second time with trophy/achievement hunting, before i would boot up a new game i would look at the trophy list and how many playthroughs are required for the platinum trophy and how many are missable trophies, it was such a miserable time because i would only play games with easy platinum whether they were good games or not but i am 95% past this problem, it still haunt me from time to time.
Modern games are just designed to get you addicted, there is no passion about creating them, my generation is fucked.

i am not too deep into music but honestly this album is good, i don't see anything hilarious or funny about it.

Never played the first one, but I sunk the entirety of 2013 and 2014 in Arma 2. I played wasteland and the DayZ mod with crafting. The engine was buggy as shit and the servers would constantly reset and revert to an earlier state. We always lost progress but we had so much fun regardless.

We used to get together in groups of up to 15 people and would just rape anyone and anything in our path that tried to give us trouble.

What was your program of choice for getting into creating MIDI music, anons?

What are you lads up to on this New Years Eve? Played Shadow Warrior all afternoon, now I am chilling playing Mario monopoly with my daughter in the living room floor with this 90+ minute AcidGlow classic Doom lore video on the TV:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qelmxoFL-8c

Don't really drink but I'm gonna go outside and smoke a joint in a bit then probably play some of the ROTT Doom TC or Blood.

If you're referring to my soundcard, yea I have that working. It took a bit of work to find the driver but it works for everything on W98 and some stuff so far on DOS.

Fuck, it's already started to snow where I live. Temps have been around freezing for a few days now.

That being said, I can't wait to get some time off during the Christmas holidays and play some games all day.

Video gay here. I got a proposal for when the Blood project is finished and everything is wrapped up.

I'm kicking around the idea of starting a mapping contest, something relatively small, like 100$ in prizes total, first place would get 50 bucks, second and third 30-20 each.
Sounds good enough incentive without super high stakes, honestly I don't have Ikea money like Joel and I wouldn't want to spend a whole year reviewing entries either, so I would like the scope of the contest to remain relatively small if possible well I'm not a bigwig in this space so that would be unlikely anyways but it would be open for anyone to join outside of this thread.

If I go though with this I think it would be neat to have more than one judge, people who know their shit and are reasonably skilled at the game I'm not doing UVfast on Sunlust any time soon, I was thinking of other YT folks off the top of my head, Mtpain27 sounds like a good pick since I enjoy his WAD critiques a lot, maybe Decino or Dwars but assuming they are interested/not busy with their own stuff that might defeat the purpose of a smaller contest, if you guys know some people who would make good judges in forums or somewhere else let me know, I'm not super familiar with the wider community in Doomworld/ZDoom/Doomer Boards, and I only ever interacted directly with a handful of modders in the past, and again, they might be too busy with their own stuff.

Assuming everyhing goes well, I would love to try this with other games in the future, who knows? maybe HUH 2 could be contest, maybe we could foment some love for Thief FMs this way, maybe even a writing contest, again, I'm not a wealthy man, far from it, but I'm passionate about this shit and I think it would be neat to reward people for doing it.

Before I get too carried away, this could be more than I could chew from the organizer standpoint, I want to think I learned from HUH.
We'll see.

As a gen Z faggot who's been getting into Doom, Quake, Blood, and a ton of different mods for them over the past few weeks, I have to agree with you boomers. They really don't make games like these anymore. I haven't had more fun with vidya in my life. Attempting to catch up on 25 years of fan content has been an absolute joy, and it makes me sad to think that so few video games inspire such a community any more.
Anyway, sorry for the sappy blogfagging and High Noon Drifter is incredible.
