What part frustrated you the most? There are a couple of steep difficulty spikes, but over all it's not super hard, you just have to be careful and not rush which is very unusualfor games of that era.

>>10535872
This guy is pathetic, everything is designed around your aur meter, that would turn it into a complete baby's game.

You are deeply insecure to have to ask others to validate your taste in the first place. To then pick that selection of games though... that takes it to another level.

Ecco is great just the way it is. I don't care how it's remembered, I care that it's a great game.

>>9531421
Let them complain. It's no problem of mine.

I'm in my late 40's and honestly think things have always been great. Even as picky as I am I can't remember a single year when I've played everything that came out that I wanted to. I couldn't even say whether I like it better these days or back in the 80's and 90's.

Sure but it's more challenging than if you didn't have to pay attention to the level lay out and how far your sonar pushes them. The Machine I agree, that's just straight up bad trial and error. The autoscroll changes it's path so seemingly randomly that you just plain have to play it enough till it's memorized and then do it a whole bunch because unless you're amazing and lucky you're sure as shit not going to beat the queen on your first try.

I don't find it clunky in the same way others seem to but then I've played it a fuck ton over the years and am very used to how he controls. Parts like this are I think great examples of having to really have a handle on how the game works.

By the way, what parts in 1 are you struggling with? I might be able to help. The Machine sucks but is just memorization, asterite fight is hard but doable. This jump is a real pain but there's actually a secret passage that let's you get around it if it's too tough.

It's not that I'm closeminded, I just never liked the CD levels enough to bother wanting to incorporate them into the main game. But then I really, really like what you call the monotonous maze levels as those are why it's one of my favorite games and never felt the need for the more actiony levels in the CD version. Hence why combined with not liking the music in it I never felt much of a desire to play it. But that's not being closeminded or saying you have to agree with me, it's just my opinion on things.

I still think this tests your jumping abilities more than anything else.

Honestly the final level isn't even super hard, it's just bullshit because of the way it auto-scrolls it's designed to kill you over and over until you figure out the right path. At least that's the only part of the game that's like that and I don't fault you for using save states to cheese through it.

If you can do the jump in City of Forever and not resort to the hidden passage or a warp, that's a much better demonstration of Ecco skill.

Ohh deffinitely. The people who say it controls badly haven't really played it. It's very different from other games so there's a big learning curve but once you have it down it's sublime.

I love Ecco to bits but that level is an outlier and just dumb. It's purely a memory practice and I consider that shitty game design.

It's the bits like pic related that make it shine.

This. They can be lazy and then there's no point, but it's awesome to set little goals. I'd love to see an achievement for making this jump instead of using the hidden passage.

He's probably never even played a Saturn game, this is pure larping to try and get himself another 400 post console bait thread. The children who come here these days are insufferable like that.

I've literally been unable to find a video if anyone actually doing this jump. The internet told them there was a shortcut so they don't even try.

What other skills are lost to time?

I feel genuinely bad for a little kid who's parents bought him Ecco because there was a dolphin on the cover.

Maybe not young kids, but I don't think it was designed for young kids. There is Ecco jr for that though. I was 18 or so when it came out and it was sometimes quite frustrating but overall a good challenge.

>>4973005
There are 3 bits I can see as issues. This jump is the biggest, if you don't know the shortcut (which back in the day we didn't) it takes a lot of practice.

The Asterite battle is straightforward but can be a real pain, though it's mitigated by the invulerability glyph you can keep going back to.

Then Welcome to the Machine isn't vthat hard it's just a case of memorizing what's going to happen which I consider lame game design.

Well managing your air supply is one of the key challenges of the game. But if you made it to the last level you did pretty good so I wouldn't feel bad for not finishing it. I am a pretty huge Ecco fan but The Machine is a poor level. Pic related is the hardest thing in the game though, so if you did it instead of looking up the shortcut then big congrats.

Outside of a couple bits Ecco really isn't that hard, it just takes patience under pressure in a way that's unusual for old games.

I consider a lot of the action games on the system like Gaiares or even Comix Zone harder overall.

Mine would probably be Rogue considering it was pre-spoilers .

I wonder if he had the balls to do this jump
