Why are sports video games so looked down on here? A lot of them are fun to play even if you don't particularly enjoy playing and/or watching the real life sport, and if you do then that makes them even more enjoyable most of the time too.

I do agree on FIFA being almost ping pong like at times nowadays, ti's like they want to go for a simulation with all of the movements and team's tactical shapes, but then when you play it's like the players all had cocaine before the match, when that should be exclusive to Maradona. What's odd is that FIFA usually feels a bit better and more organic on launch, but most players prefer a more approachable and arcade experience, so patches try to make an arcade game on top of a simulation core, which just break the whole thing. I feel that the developers at EA want to make a simulation, while the executives want them to make an arcade because it'd mean more players and FUT money. PES 5 is still more realistic than anything out today.

I wish we had more options really, like in the 80's and especially the 90's, even the early 2000's. We had developers who attempted different things, some wanting to go for realism, while others prefered to go for something as fun as possible, some who tried to keep things more grounded, while some would add special powers, now all we have is eFootball, which is PES' corpse that Konami keeps dragging around the mud, FIFA which is more about cards and gambling than the sport itself, and that's it. We have UFL and GOALS coming out, and even FIFA hinted at a new company with the license, we have the indie scene too and a new Mario Strikers coming, but it's still underwhelming. I feel microtransactions killed the sports genre.
