I put off playing Fusion for many years due to this sentiment but I was pleasantly surprised when I finally did. The game is more guided than the 2D Metroids that came before it in the sense that it's continually placing markers on your map, but you still need to explore uncharted mazelike sections of the world in order to reach those objectives, so it still feels like a proper Metroid game.

It's got some of the series' best bosses too.
