Some good mods/maps/episodes for Duke3D :

- Metropolitan Mayhem, a 15maps episode of small city maps based on how things are in the original game (pic related). Requires eduke32
http://www.moddb.com/mods/metropolitan-mayhem

- DNF mod : a recreation of what you could see in old DNF trailers (requires eduke32)
http://www.moddb.com/mods/duke-nukem-forever

-WGrealms 2, a standalone shooter that completely changes the game and which is like a middle ground between duke3D and doom
http://www.moddb.com/games/wgrealms-2

-AMC TC, again changes completely the game (new story, new weapons, etc)
http://www.moddb.com/games/the-amc-tc

-Slender Wood's, a slender game, standalone
http://www.moddb.com/games/slenders-woods

-Sonic 3D, standalone, by the same author as slender woods
http://eddyprojects.blogspot.fr/2013/04/sonic-hedgehog-3d-v03-released.html

Singleplayer maps I've worked on with other mappers :
-Galbadia, modern style city maps by 4 mappers (also available on the Steam workshop)
http://www.moddb.com/games/duke-nukem-3d/addons/galbadia

-Sin Center, original style city map
http://www.moddb.com/games/duke-nukem-3d/addons/sin-center

Main sites to download maps/community:
- http://dukerepository.com/ the biggest maps center for duke3D but it's dead now, hasn't been updated in 2 years. Anything more recent you'll have to get it on MSDN.

No problem.

If you like DN3D that much I recommend playing those 2 mods
http://www.moddb.com/mods/metropolitan-mayhem
http://www.moddb.com/mods/duke-nukem-forever

the first one is an episode made in the classic style of the city maps of the original game. It's small maps, takes around 1h30-2h to play. I made 3 maps in that one.

2nd one is a recreation of what you can see in old DNF trailers. Takes 2H as well, it's really good.

To play them you need to:
1) install eduke32 sourceport
2) copy the file "duke3D.grp" from your steam folder to your eduke32 folder
3) install the mods (just unzip them) and launch the .bat files

There are still tons of maps and mods made for Duke3D nowadays. Less than for Doom, but still a good ammount.

I liked DTWID, dunno what to say about it really...

If you guys are interested, a few Duke Nukem 3D mappers (including myself) made an episode in the same concept: an episode in the style of the original city maps of the game.
It should take around 1h30 and a half to play; best to play it with the eduke32 sourceport

The only major difference with the original episode maps is that it was also a sort of "speedmapping" episode and also that we did not include deathmatch. It's actually a big difference: the original Duke3D maps are made with dukematch in mind which is why they are heavily interconnected.

Nice shots and great map idea. How much more do you say is left to be played? Will it be compatible without the HPR?

Also about making this map dukematch oriented; I think you should think it through. If the players have to go back inside for air, then it will just end up in players camping inside because they know that's a spot one has to go through and that they are less weak that underwater.
A way to fix it is to balance it between the different buildings though, have more scuba gears around (and not just in one place) and spread ammo and weapons evenly. Another way is to put several entrances to each base (which might only appear in DM).
Also you might consider putting teleporters which go from base to base that'd only appear in deathmatch : the issue with them though is that they'd render going underwater pointless, so make sure to make them hard to reach; the side-effect to these teleporters is that you might be stepping into tripbombs, so make sure to put tripbombs around, they're always fun in DM.

It's true that the underwater theme is very under-used in Duke3D, even though the original DOES use it really well though with the map Flood Zone.
I think the main reason is that making a map with tons of underwater sections is a lot more trouble than without.
I made a copy of Flood Zone in the Metropolitan Mayhem episode with the help of Mikko Sandt. It's solid but it's nothing you haven't seen before, and it's also really small in terms of scale because it was made within 24hours. Still I'm rather proud of it, with the time restrictions, we were able to pull out a map where you constantly go back&forth underwater.

I also knew somebody who worked on a map about a modern-style city flooded, half-merged underwater (overwater you'd reach rooftops but you could also go underwater). It looked amazing and really original but the map got lost due to hard-drive failure.

If you guys beat the mod and are looking for more Duke3D action, check this one out: it's a 1h30 long episode made in the classic style of the original city maps. One of the guys who worked on the DNF mod worked on this one too.
