Gotta give the Super Show the number one spot. The characterizations of Mario and Luigi in that show became definitive, both the live action and the animated. The quality of the show is debatable now that I'm older, but It still holds a special place in my heart.

I loved the live actions segments. The idea of framing the wacky Mushroom Kingdom adventures with tales of the plumbers from brooklyn (which, as I understand the games have retconned, boo-urns) was totally awesome. I loved how in the live action bits, Mario was a bit of an oaf, and Luigi was a wiseguy who handled everything, while in the cartoon Mario was a fearless leader and Luigi was a bit of a coward. I'd like to think that once they found themselves in this whacked-out fantasy land, Mario clicked with it and found this inner-focus that he lacked in reality, and Luigi kind of broke down, unable to handle it.

Glad to see the Mario movie is getting some support now. Not being a hipster or anything, but I always loved it, from day one. I was able to appreciate the fact that it was a different take on the Mario franchise. I liked the relationship between Mario and Luigi, and the goofy sci-fi tone worked very well. Dennis Hopper as Koopa? How can you hate that?
