A lot of Game Gears have screen rot, so a replacement screen is really rescuing it from obsolescence. If it's a GG with an unblemished screen I'd say leave it alone or just add an LED mod, but if the screen is already trashed (like pic related), then replacing the screen is probably the best thing that can happen to the system. The only other real option for a GG with screen rot is to consolize it.

Also, Sega sold like 20 million Game Gears so they're not really that rare. I wouldn't replace a screen on a GG that has a good condition screen, but there are plenty of GGs out there with bad screens that are great candidates for the replacement kit.

So I opened the game gear up and found a capacitor had popped off of its solder points somehow. It was really quick and easy to solder it back in place, and now you can better see what the screen rot looks like.

As stated before, there is no way to repair screen rot, so this GG's motherboard is a perfect candidate for a McWill screen mod. Of the three GGs I've purchased this is the only one with screen rot, and it's also the one I've had the longest.
