the new doom games are good in spite of being related to doom, not because of it
the reality is that doom never really needed a reboot, when the fanbase already figured out its "universe" and anything that could/should/would have been done normally was already done by them
if you actually read the doom comic, you realize how little it actually inspired the new games besides a basic catchphrase
and even then, making that an important factor of doom history is like treating captain n's version of simon belmont as an historical moment for castlevania history

i like how the entire idea of overhyping doomguy was originally an ironic meme from 4chan, before either brutal doom or screwattack led to people take it seriously and now we have a reboot that made it official, we got more people getting into fights with other fanbases over the superiority about doomguy and why he could beat master chief/samus/dante/sephiroth/40k marines according to clickbait lore videos
