Mistakes where made.
They should have made the devkit default 480p, done microcode improvements earlier, and increased the texture buffer from 16x16 to 64x64 or 128x128.
Gambling on RAM improvements to ship a entire disk drive was also a stupid move.

The controller will be laid out like a modern dual thumbstick pad but instead of analogue thumbsticks they will both be precision digital clicky nubs like on the neogeo pocket color.

Each pad has a little tamagotchi/vmu style screen built in. Not on a removable device. This is for a lot of the same reasons the VMU was intended for and the premise of the WiiU screen, to give each player access to private info.

For very successful games, there could be content discs that devoted fans can go buy. These contain new animatics, music stills, comics featuring the game characters, developer interviews and voice actors roleplaying as their characters like anime character discs. There could also be "digital gaming magazines" that work this way which you read entirely on the console, including playable demos.

This realizes the whole "Multimedia CD!" gimmick but in a way 100% focused on gaming instead of weird edutainment shit nobody wanted like CD encyclopedias or The Flowers of Robert Mapplethorpe

Comes out in Japan first with NA release the subsequent year depending on performance. Next target markets assuming success are Britain and Australia.

The ads are not obnoxious, "Xtreme" or badmouth competitors, but focus on what the console does well that others do not (without explicitly saying they don't) and plays up how many hours of entertainment you get out of games and content CDs verses movies per dollar spent.

Something like, a kid gets shipwrecked on an island but there's a TV with the console, a controller and a single content disc. He's like "YESSSS" and in the next shot he's 80 with a long white beard and still having fun with it

People are stupid and hypocritical. There are things out there that are popular BECAUSE you can attach stuff to them; with cool or interesting results. But when a game console tries to do it? With added performance and graphical benefit? NOPE! This is crap! What kind of scam are they trying to pull? etc.

Just think, if Sega was successful everyone would be doing it right now. We might even have prior gen consoles attaching to current ones and a blu ray drive for the 360. It would have been really neat.

Fun fact: The Dreamcast was made with this in mind. It was meant to eventually be updated with peripherals as well.
