I've also gotten it to work w svideo which looks just as nice as RGB to me. I used this board: http://www.jammaboards.com/store/rgb-to-ntsc-pal-tv-converter-pcb-cv-04.html, but had to run the signal through an Extron RGB 201 first, and change a dip switch inside it to make the sync work. Looks good though. Here it is running on a cheapo RCA TV through svid. (Here's this pic again)

Craigslist, Goodwill, side of the road, there are crt tv's everywhere. Arcade monitors weren't any better, they just had convenient analog pot controls and RGB inputs. A transcoder can get you there with a tv. This is from a free RCA my sister gave me, going through a RGB to svideo transcoder I got for $35.
