That would actually explain why they're so different.
DLC is basically a part scrapped from the main game,maybe at the time 3D Realms still owned it. That Duke was the real one.

Again in the infamous Hive scene he didn't give a damn about the twins dying in front of him,same for Dillon who was bleeding to death.

In the DLC he actually seemed to care about everyone around him and he even punched a guy who was sexually harassing a woman.
Something that the actual Duke would do.
