/vr/ - Retro Games

I still can't put my finger exactly on why I liked the Genesis more than the SNES. I had both and both had games I loved. But over time I accumulated around five times as many Genesis games and these days it's the one I go back to by far the most.

I'm glad I'm not a Mario fan too and I'm even more glad what happened to Mario never happened to Comix Zone. But then I also don't need to replay Comix Zone so often it becomes boring because I like so many games both old and new that there's constantly new experiences.

I feel real sympathy for people stuck working at Nintendo, where every time they try to do anything actually new a flood of idiots screams that it's not Metroid and why aren't they giving them more Metroid!?!???

Comix Zone is perfect as it is and where it is. My only regret is it didn't get the M2 treatment that Ecco, Space Harrier and others did where I can experience it on wonderful 3D. But apparently I'm one or the rare few who ever used the 3D on those ports so it's understandable. Other than that, perfect.

And they all fail to capture that old school retro feel. Sonic mania as good as it was still is inferior to Sonic 2. Axiom Verge is fucking shit compared to Wonderboy 3. All of your beloved indie games are poor imitations.

Yeah and I never cared a ton for Nintendo first party or RPGs. It's still an awesome system but the Genesis library is better for my tastes. I don't like either Sonic or Streets of Rage though ironically.

I haven't played Spyro so can't comment on it specifically. Obviously not every game makes sense with a limited number of lives. But that doesn't make the ones that do work well with it, where beating the game in a single try is the main goal, any less valid.

I'm not sure if he was talking about the puzzle stuff. To me that's one of tge things I like about it, lots of replayability as you figure out different routes makes replaying the early levels more interesting while you tackle the later ones. I'm kind of a Comix Zone fanboy though.
