Goldeneye isn't even that great of a James Bond game, Nightfire is the best followed by Agent Under Fire. It's not even the best James Bond game on the N64, The World Is Not Enough had a much more thought out singleplayer with more interesting weapons and much better AI

Goldeneye is just the most iconic because it was advertised the most and it was most peoples' first FPS because they didn't play PC games. FPS of course is the best genre, so even a bad one is great to people who never experienced it before
