Sega retro recommendations?

/vr/ I need to finally play Sega games - genesis, mega drive, peripheral shit, dreamcast (technically retro?). I've been putting it off for years and every time I get started it's no more than

>open genesis emulator
>browse rom collection
>start a random game
>ADHD kills it
>back to other comfy games later


So I was hoping I could get some real recommendations for building my play history / knowledge of Sega consoles and games.

-What's worth emulating / playing?
-What's worth looking into other than the Sega genesis? (as in, do people have fond memories of mega drive/32x/other weird peripherals?)
-How does one go about emulating Dreamcast, or is it better to find a real console and pirate discs like I've seen people do?
