Unreal Evolution is honestly breddy gud, though I'm still in the starting mines.
>New gun sounds
>Actually useful dodge for once in Unreal
>Increased number of nuisance enemies (bugs and tentacles) but they die quick and gib satisfyingly
>You can reload Automag without switching weapons, which doens't matter but its cool
>Weapons have upgrades but they don't seem to be complete trash -- stuff like +regen for the blaster -- probably keeps the Stinger relevant later once you have Flak gun
>Blaster actually regenerates at an okay pace without needing to hide and eat a bowl of chips while you wait with your game at 200% speed
>Headshots for every weapon. Kind of weird but also makes ambushes more fun because you can own a Lizard / rocket ogre that has you cornered in a few shots
>Tweaked encounters so you need to pay more attention to old levels (even small shuffling like enemies spawning behind a different door than Vanilla when you trigger something). In picrel they changed the gates at the start so you can't blaster-jump out of the ambush and the ogre shooter flak grenades instead of rockets.
Only complaints so far are the cringe modern-style camera waggle when you shoot (but it gets reduced with weapon upgrades I guess) and that the lower TTK makes me take less damage. But I guess its more Doom damage -- unlike Vanilla Unreal where one stray shot wrecks your health and armour, now its if you screw up and get cornered by a Skaarj and multiple nuisance enemies you're dead.
And it doesn't run properly on 227j so no big HUD.
