err, like when the barrel swings smoothly up to the left, if it quickly snapped a smidge left just before breaking open to the right, it would feel like "a flick of the wrist." sort of a whipping motion?

you know, if you select all the keyframes in the fcurve editor and switch their interpolation mode to constant, you can animate in stop motion, without the tweening. unless, of course, you're intentionally making 30 sprites here.
