He made games for a variety of platforms, including old Soviet computers.

Simplistic as they are, they're probably the best homebrew games available.

Also, Japanese homebrew game Blade Buster is quite impressive. Pic related.

Also, for the NES enthusiasts, there's this homebrew shmup for the NES called Blade Buster that's in some ways a port of Super Star Soldier. It only has a time attack mode, and only has two "stages", but is otherwise one technically impressive game.
