They are casual games for causal play. I enjoy them, but maybe something with a little more flair like the Suchie Pai games could be something if you're interested. That series is mahjong but with cheating (see opponent's hand, destroy a tile, etc.) and features character designs by Sonoda Kenichi-sensei. For the hidden gems, the Playstation versions of the games will avoid anime nudity and suggestiveness, as a bonus they tend to be priced less too.

There's always the internet if that is your goal. The game is kind of basic and I don't see the strategies for betting. That's probably why the Suchie-pai games work for me beyond just character interactions, since it is Mahjong but with cheating.

The cover has the extra notation and the game disc is a 4-color process opposed to the 2-color process of the regular editions. The game is exactly the same.

No one said Mortal Kombat 2 either, that one was red label on Saturn as well understandably so, as it is a kusoge

Wow, specifically P4?! For that reason? To be fair, that game was ported everywhere, I even got it for 3DO and I don't have a 3DO.

Practically almost all of them cheat and stack the whole board for their benefit. Maybe that's why I kinda favor the Suchie-Pai series because at least in that one you can sort of cheat back (destroy tiles, switch hands, see upcoming hidden piece, etc.).

I meant Sony of Japan. There were a lot of multiplatform games where the Playstation edition got extra gallery modes or a story mode that were not present in even more capable hardware (like Dreamcast).

I remembered Sega started disallowing red label games to be more like Sony and Nintendo. You can see how the red label games are only from the early Saturn games, and once market dominance was on Sony's side only yellow labels were the limit on the Saturn. By the time Dreamcast came along, even yellow label games were phased out but the limits are a bit far. I remember the PS2 had God of War which was a notable shift in US Playstation side.

I would say the Saturn had games that catered to the Japanese. Again with my distorted perspective when I was in Japan in those days, the PC-Engine was bigger and the hotness and not the Famicom. The Saturn pretty much adopted all those PCE games/developers and not the PCFX. The red label games on Saturn (the ones that allowed tits and adult themes) continued from the PC-Engine's light restrictions on content. However, Sega tried to catch up to Sony by no longer allowing red label games (yellow label is suggestive of sexual nature, but no topless women nor anime tits). Notice how there are no late release red label games, but plenty more yellow label games.

Sony's policies for publishing in Japan didn't even allow for what would be "yellow label" content on Saturn (they also required multiplatform games to have an exclusive feature not found on their competitors' consoles, so that's where the extra story modes or galleries which made Sony the choice to pick in the end).

While I was excited to preorder Grandia (got the map, CD, and folder/pamphlet), I would say it was not as popular as FF7 at all, but still very hype of a game. I can validate Virtua Fighter was bigger than Street Fighter in that time in Japan, for some reason I don't know. I want to like Sakura Taisen again, but that phase has passed.

Aside from the music and atmosphere, it was not that good. It threw together a bunch of weird horrible ideas in a way most had not seen put together that way before. Similar to how a lot of strange, yet interesting games the Dreamcast had at that time like Jet Set Radio, Seaman, Samba De Amigo, Space Channel 5, Chu Chu Rocket, etc. Sega subscribed hard to the "innovate or die" strategy for the Dreamcast and still died.

I kinda had to get it because it is cheap and it's like a tradition. I am still trying to hunt down the P's Club mail order only editions of the Saturn games.

Me too, I want. Loved the original AES/MVS game. Now I really need the NGPC flash cart.
