Something horizontal and with stacked shoulder buttons, but not too small (see >>10620181). The cheapest stuff is limited to PCSX Rearmed which is on the low end of emulation but gets you by, plenty of power for 480p. If you're used to sticks on bottom I'd recommend Pocket 2S (cheapest one), which granted is overkill for PS1 but nets you the best d-pad and sticks for chinkhelds AFAIK. Some complain the brick format is not comfortable and require a grip, but works on my hands™. The case is cool if you need it, pretty good quality despite the tacky look, doesn't ship smelling like death like others.
