Sonic's 50/50, some people will like it, others not, and that's fine. If you want a Sonic that feels a bit more traditional go for the 8-Bit titles, but if you want to try out 16-Bit Sonic again, I'd go for both Sonic 2 and Sonic 3&K to start off, remember to press down on slopes and use the momentum, a bit of spin dashing when you need, and don't be upset if you fail, that's normal in all video games.

Sonic's all about momentum, physics and flow, it takes practice to get the feel for it, it takes time, but all video games become more fun as we get better at them and understand them a bit more.

>....It's really not
I mean, I get not liking it, but there's nothing in it that makes it bad in my eyes, so I'd still qualify it as decent. It has good level design that's not too linear, nor too easy to get lost in, the goal's quite simple to understand, there aren't any bugs that I recall, if there are then they're not common, its main issue is that platforming with an isometric view isn't so easy, but most of the platforming in the levels is designed with that in mind I think, so it works well enough, especially if you use Sonic's spindash jumping when you see an opportunity, I don't think it's as fun as SA1/SA2, but it's fun too.

I agree, SEGA CD, but especially 32x and Saturn, at least with its launch in the west, really killed their chances, but I think a good 3D Sonic could, not that it necessarily would, have been enough to give them a chance, they would've lost to PS1 and N64 in the west, but would've still done well in Japan and their loss in the west wouldn't be that bad compared to what it ended up being.

It might've made it so the Saturn had a decent enough holiday season in 1996, resulting in new excitement and hype for the console during the following years before the Dreamcast came out.

>Why didn't they create something original?
Because SSJ is really fucking cool.
Anything original wouldn't have been as cool.
That's all.
