I'm imagining the area conveying a pocket dimension of sorts. Really the more cutesy it looks the better if the boss is that giant lizard. Gives the impression that Dracula's power tainted it and Maria has to slay the beast to restore it to it's former glory and earns the whimsical harem costume as a reward. It gives it a slight magical girl vibe.
