To me the phrase "aged poorly" means that given modern enhancements to games it is no longer fun to go back and play.

Some examples I would give:

Aged Well
Super Mario World - This game was great then and is still great now. Even normies that don't play games love to play this.

Pinball - This has aged very well, with antique machines still being a blast to play.

Silent Hill 2 - This game still looks, sounds, and plays great. It's scary as fuck to this day and has a loyal fanbase after all these years.

Sonic1/2/3
Streets of Rage
etc.

Aged Poorly:
Early CoDs - clunk af and slow compared to today's 4K games. No online? Memory cards? Some zoomies don't even know shit like that exists.

Runnin out of steam but you get my point i hope

I think it's important to form your own opinion on retro games. 10/10 people will tell you they hate FMV games from the 90's but that's literally one of my favorite genre's. They've aged like rancid goat cheese out of a frogs ass but they are hilariously funny to play sometimes yet also really intense.

Games like Lethal Enforcers 1&2
Night Trap
HELL A CYBERPUNK THRILLER (I fucking love this game)

My favorite console of all time is probable the 3DO followed by the CD-I even though that thing is truly shit.

Another aspect is if a much earlier game does something better than games after it, that is seen to increase it's "aged well" score so to speak.

A game immediately outdated by its sequel will not age well.
