Play Doom 1. Beat it vanilla, damnit. Visual mods are okay, shit like Ketshup or Better Fire, but you better be getting chummy with Doomguy, his guns, and his world as they're all fucking meant to be. If you skip the fourth episode, YOU'RE FUCKING DOING IT WRONG.

Now go play Doom 2. Now that you're familiar with the normal shit, play it stock a little to get to know the SSG. Once you're gotten to know the final piece of the classic Doom arsenal, you can play the game with whatever gameplay mods you want. Brutal Dumb, Burl Tumd, Russian Overkill, whatever the fuck floats your boat. But your maps better stay fucking stock (or near stock, ala PSX Doom). If you play through it and beat it vanilla, go reward yourself. You fucking earned it.

Now that you've played the two core games of the Doom universe, you're free to roam wherever you please.

TNT? Play it whenever you feel like it.
Plutonia? Chip your teeth on TNT first.
Doom 2 Master Levels? Don't worry about it unless you can find a WAD with all the Master Levels maps arranged in some kind of order. And if you do find something like that, you bring it right the fuck back here, because we fucking ALL wanna play that shit.
If you know what's good for you, you will go play Doom 64 EX. Doom 64 is the real Doom 3[/spoiler.]
