Would you believe I stumbled across that video a few hours after I made that post and saw the comparison? I was just too lazy to post that afterwards.
That's not so bad then. Best of both worlds, really.

My only gripes with Metroid 1 is some of the hallways are identical, and your controls get locked up and all fucking weird when you take a hit. I don't have problems with having to replenish your health after continuing, but the drop rates being fucked up in the US version sucks.
Otherwise I think it's fine, I actually appreciate how combat works in Metroid 1 with how beams are weak, missiles are your real damage, and bombs provide a shitload of utility when fighting stuff.
If you're really this annoyed with Metroid 1, you could try Metroid Planets, or Metroid Rogue Dawn.
