I love how Sonic 2 on Master System/Game Gear ditched the traditional platformer 1st level with all of those hills and trees, tons of green, for this lava filled level. It was bold and also iconic, but I think most of that was due to the 1st boss on the Game Gear, the version most people played, was awful on that screen resolution, and filtered so many, including me, but I love 8-Bit Sonic 2 now.

I don't know what they were thinking with leaving this boss like it was on the Game Gear, it was much more manageable on the Master System, but here they didn't even attempt to accomodate it to the smaller resolution at all.
