Afair the creature behavior is pretty consistent; even if there is some randomization involved in the flight/fight threshold of a paramite for example, it never results in something that you would call an unfair death -- it just means that you need to be generally careful. In fact, I'd argue as a positive for the game the fact that the 1:1 gridlocked precision of the rest of the gameplay doesn't fully extend to how the actually "living" creatures behave.
