I wanna try to get into JRPGs but I don't like the shonen anime fantasy type of story and aesthetics most seem to have. But I'm a big fan of old school survival horror, classic RE etc.

Are there any horror JRPGs, besides Parasite Eve and Koudelka/Shadow Hearts series? Or generally a dark/gothic vibe, like Vagrant Story maybe?

Thinking about it, you're right. Parasite Eve still had many similar elements, like tank controls, horror themes and even survival aspects to an extend.
