What makes people vehemently cling to a story that's been disproven to them, regardless of how long they've believed it? Is it just the amount of time? My generation had no less than a gazillion "that kid" type stories that we grew up believing as the truth, especially since the internet was still a science fiction concept at the time.

Everything from video game rumors, to not swimming for a half hour after eating, to snap bracelet suicides and poisoned Halloween candy with a bonus razor blade apple to go with it. It was all bullshit, obviously. We know that now. I had no issues whatsoever in letting it go and moving past it. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would, let alone argue about it like a nerd on the internet.
