When Mega Evolution kicked in with the Kanto starter they gave you in X. That game is waaaay easier than the already easy previous entries, even without EXP. Share, no Megas, and no grinding. I realized I was more into finding clothing for the girl protag than actually finding Pokemon.

The designs were fine, but the world was flat boring and there wasn't anything interesting other than the few exploration quirks. Like the cave with the behind camera angle instead of overhead and riding the Rhydon through the snow.

The thing is I thoroughly White and Platinum. They were easy and the story childish, but it was at a fun ride with cool locations. Platinum has my favorite setting with variety of locations and fucking Spear Pillar. Climbing up Spear Pillar to confront Team Galactic then getting sucked into that other dimension was fun, if not underutilized. Also, the music was fucking great.

White's story was nothing special, but I liked the roughness of the 3d with 2d sprites. The music was great and seeing Plasma's methods was enough of a change along with N's encounters to at least come off as TRYING something new. Then wrap it up with a battle with legendaries against N... it was a cool set-up. Best part was being forced into using only 5th gen Pokemon until post-game, and the fast-paced battle system (X fucked that up).

Overall I'd have to say 5th gen is my favorite in terms of designs. I don't think they look like Digimon and are a cool urban parallel to the rustic, older designs. I've been playing the games as they came out in my free time. I'm 26 now and X just sucked way too hard to continue.

BTW favorite Pokemon? Going have to go with Quagsire over here. I had one that kicked ass in Netbattle with Seismic Toss/Yawn/Earthquake/Counter. He was a defensive, countering asshole. Good times.
