Definitely has awesome results, pic related. My HDRetrovision SNES cables on my Trintron WEGA KV24FS120.

If by "Newer CRT" you mean HDCRT, I would recommend exchanging for a standard def set. 240p looks and runs way better on SD sets, so I would go for it. Look out for the WEGA and XBR line of standard def CRTs. Also Toshiba made some nice silver sets with Component, those are nice too.
