It's fine, but a lot of its deviations from the standard id shooter mold felt like gimmicks and those design decisions (weapon mods, glory kills, ledge climbing, chainsaw ammo pinata) wouldn't be fully realized as core to the experience until Eternal. I will say that even before Eternal released, some of those things made a lot more sense in arcade mode. What are normally inconveniences (glory kills, overkill alt-fires) now reward points, justifying their use.
