I've tried multiple times. It's barely progressed since ESRGAN. We've hit the wall with single image super resolution; researchers are focusing their attention elsewhere (like video), the majority of new models are focused around improving PSNR (a useless but easily testable metric) and usually the state of the art can only boast a 0.05 improvement on Urban100. Any model that did present a huge improvement would be too large to train on consumer hardware anyway. https://paperswithcode.com/task/super-resolution/latest#code

The DKC trilogy isn't like Myst or PS1 games, the graphics are so compressed that they have more in common with pixel art, especially 2 and 3. There's not enough information for the AI to extrapolate.
