Play CD instead, OP (either version is fine)

>The game plays really well, and there is something unique in the level design that really is not found in future Sonic games.
>The level gimmicks really shine through in this first entry, not every level is "run right and go fast"
Play Sonic 1 GG/SMS and Sonic CD if you want more like this. Some people also like Sonic Colors, in its defense it does borrow a lot of the nice aesthetic elements from CD, however when I played the game in 2010 I was hoping for more of the Unleashed style.

What I like about 1 and CD is they actually save the faster stages for later in the game, like Star Light Zone and Stardust Speedway. In Sonic 2 you get Chemical Plant and maybe Aquatic Ruin and then everything just sort of slows down again after that

I grew up with this version. Have never actually played using the US soundtrack. Also if you like Sonic CD I highly recommend playing some of these >>10811948

Still Sonic CD for me, but that one is easily my second favorite. Soundtrack is great

Model 1 BIOS, Model 2 hardware. I had a Genesis Model 1 as a kid but the Model 2 CD just looks nicer and is more reliable

CD is that game, yes it technically came before 3K but still on better hardware that could do more than the base Genesis console like the pseudo-3D Special Stages and FMV cutscenes which came long before X4. SEGA CD truly was the Genesis 2.

In the case of the US, they did it to create synergy between other platforms

Red for Genesis
Blue for SEGA CD
Yellow for 32X
Purple for Game Gear
White for Saturn

Best ones yes, though I wouldn't call them the only good ones. You might like Sonic 1 GG/SMS, it's similar to the Genesis game but with more precision platforming challenges. As always, if you enjoy Sonic CD, I highly recommend checking out more SEGA CD games. It's a great and underrated platform, and definitely has more going for it than Saturn imo

For 2D it is probably CD right now, for no other reason than me being obsessed with the SEGA CD platform in general. For 3D my favorite is still Unleashed. I still listen to the music from these games constantly.

Fun fact, I have never played this game with the Japanese soundtrack. Had the Windows 95 version growing up, got Gems Collection later on, and now I just emulate the original SEGA CD. Will probably download a Japanese rom someday (haven't done this since I was more focused on full US/Eng-friendly romsets for various systems)

1 and CD have a different school of design from 2 and 3K. People always compare 2 and CD for obvious reasons, but really CD is closer to 1. So compared to 1, I prefer CD.

As for 2 and 3K, I tend to gravitate towards 2, but the Sonic 3 half of 3K does a lot of really cool things with the way it uses Sonic's speed, mostly in Hydrocity Zone. I just wish Sonic 2 and 3K saved the faster levels for later in the game the way Sonic 1 and CD did.

Try Popful Mail or Terminator OP. SEGA CD has plenty of other games. Snatcher is good too afaik but I haven't played it yet

Personally it's still my favorite SEGA CD game. But I can see why some people don't like it

You might start with the console versions of whatever games you enjoy on PC. It might also help us a bit if you told us what games those are

I usually just play the same few games over and over again. If I'm on a Famiclone I play Tetris or Donkey Kong, if I'm on one of my other handhelds I stick to a handful of GBA games, or if I'm playing on my TV it's usually Sonic CD or The Terminator.
