I like Shining Force a lot better than Golden Sun (mainly bc Golden Sun had a bit more of a messy development that shows at times) but I agree it had lots of fun and charming n it too. From the first time I saw how VC played I've always wished for Sega to make a new Shining game in that style, even though I understand wanting the original overhead tiles back too since I still love that style too. It could play like the new FE game that allows you to to do both (no pixels though) but I'm not sure if I'm ready to endure more SF vs FE arguments. Everyone and their moms hopes for a completed (and translated) SF3 port and it's still a dream to be honest but dangit, I still want it bad too, along with SF4 of course.

VC style with traditional square grid, aka FE3H style. It'd probably be pushing it to have it go between 2d and 3d though and like I said before, I'm not sure I'm ready for more SF vs FE arguments. One thing I'd want them to keep though is turns determined by speed as opposed to you picking who moves when you want. Sure it was irritating at times but playing FE3H after replaying SF1 really made me realize how fond of it I was.

If you just want the SRPGS start with 1. If you're interested in the series as a whole start with Shining in the Darkness which is the very first game in the series but is a dungeon crawler.

They still whore the brand sure but it's hardly the same as it used to be. It's not just the aesthetic that changed either.

It's fun. Shining the Holy Ark is fucking god-tier, though.
