it can be very expensive
i suggest finding a petco nearby that stocks the premade saltwater..
i spend about $50 a month on distilled fresh water (water evaps salt doesnt)
live rock can be expensive too
its never an empty tank
its a mini tidepool ecosystem
filled with scuds, amphipods, plants, corals, etc

dont choose seahorses
i have a small reef lobster & baby clownfish currently

dont expect to control the tank
you cannot control the ocean
its a v rewarding hobby

even a small tank wont stabilize for around 6 months

buy a refractometer
