Shadow and highlighting modes. The genesis Sonic games since 2 use it in debug mode actually to display low/high sprite priority tiles, and in a practical usage the Sonic 3 special stages use it for shadows. Dither isn't anything special though; it's just an art trick on the Genesis.

How do I git gud at collecting blue balls? This is ridiculously hard!

Did anyone actually like these special stages? Is anyone glad they were brought back for Sonic Mania?

S3&K special stages are hard at first, but with a bit of practice, they aren't that hard. They actually were a fun challenge for me. With the Internet these days, you can find the map layouts of the stages and study them, so you know when and where to turn and jump.

S2 special stages are pure bullshit though. Can't do them all.

Isn't there a way to select through each Special Stage in the Debug Mode/Level Select of S&K?

Reason I want to do this is I want to practice the special stages of S&K so that I can get all the Super Emeralds in S3&K. I've got the Chaos Emeralds of S3 down easy, but most of the Supers still fuck me over.

From what I understand I can do this, but I've tried everything I've read for the Level Select mode in S&K and all it lets me do is the first S&K special stage.
