I dunno, to me it looks as anime as something like hokuto no ken or saint seiya, but you're right that toriyama has his own distinct style, in fact evolved over the years (from round to more angular, to rounder shapes again later).
But it is anime, anyway.
If the only game you played was legacy of goku, then you're missing out on some great older games.

Super Butoden 2

It's less important than the multiplayer, since VS fighting games are made with that in mind first and foremost, but arcade modes/story modes can be pretty interesting. It can be good to getting into the game's lore and story, plus in many cases the boss characters aren't selectable so you can only see them while playing on single player.
