People don't talk a lot about it but it's one of my favorite things on the MiSTer. I can whip up a mask filter using the editor (https://bool.space/mister/ShadowMaskEditor.htm)) and have it look any way I want. The scanline options are great too. I find MiSTer's filter options much better to get exactly what I want out of than something like Retroarch's shaders, but maybe those are just too complicated for me.
