which is why it needs support, there is one DLL patch for Q2 using the same idea for 3.24 on Kmquake2/Quake 2 Cafe forums, it looks neat but unlike Retroquake that is more advanced and even supports custom texture and models, this one is the old russian one using the software renderer.
also if my memory serves well, i remember that someone made chunky quake 3 back in the early 2000's and it looked good
