Might not be related: But there was a PC-Engine game that was trying to be Bubblegum Crisis aesthetic wise, it might've been a shmup. Cannot remember the name of it, though.

There's a specific way a lot of older video game sound -- mostly pointing at things like Sega Genesis and some PC-Engine games -- that really rev the nostalgia core and makes me think back on a lot of 80's/90's stuff.
