Cosmic Crusader, a very early one from 82 made by Michael Abrash long before his days of fame working on Quake. Galaxian basically, but you have shields that temporarily protect you from enemies and there's a Space Invaders-style mother ship that flies across the top of the screen that can be shot for a large bonus. You have a limited supply and get more by shooting flying shields. This game works exceptionally well with joysticks as you press button 1 to shoot and button 2 to use a shield.

Here's Cosmic Crusader, a nice little early PC gem. While an NES port might be nice it might almost be better to do on the Master System since the x86 code would convert to Z80 much more easily and the Master System lets you offset the right third of the screen for a status bar. Then you can just vertically scroll the starry background.
