that's also why they went with the shitty ZIF connector, to hide the cart inside the console.

yes, 100% true and also documented in multiple interviews. Nintendo saw too many NESes destroyed by people resting sodas, etc. on top and spilling them, which is a large part of why the SNES was designed the way it was.
