Even though I don't think James *deserves* to die, the In Water ending seems the most fitting.

SH1 and SH2 are both very good games but for different reasons.
The part where James walks up to the hotel gate and we faintly hear Mary cry out his name still gives me mad chills.

Gameplay wise SH2 is the worst one. And narrative wise it gets put on a pedestal by bandwagoners that never seen a Lynch movie or read a good story before. It does a lot of cool things with its influences, contextualizing them in a game sense, like the surreal elevator section. It's a very good product all things considered, but things that get hyped this much *never* live up to it because there's no way they could.

Very interesting take, anon. I agree that games really allow you to insert yourself into another world, something I find really cool about vidya in general. I think it's one of the reasons why the first Silent Hill game is so good because of Harry Mason. He's just a guy who wants to protect the people he cares about, something everyone can relate to.

I don't think that's a bad thing. Human condition sucks, SH games do a decent job showing that. Turning the game off doesn't change the fact that life sucks and then you die.

2, 3, 4... they just don't do it for me. I appreciate them on an artistic level, but I don't think I'll ever replay them. The western titles never happened.
