even in a deterministic universe where all my thoughts and actions are the sum result of the universe which birthed me, so too are all the potentialities of that universe apart from me deterministic and therefor influenced in their entirety by the decisions I make.

that's even if this were a deterministic universe, and not one where all potentialities exist simultaneously until the passage of time strips them down to a single route, and I don't know about you but personally I would rather dig at the soil with my bare hands and change the course of the river rather than be swept along with it like a retarded fish or mindless grain of sand
