Any of the easily softmoddable PS2's, pretty sure all of them can be FreeDVDBoot-ed now and installed FreeMCBoot. I haven't had to softmod one in ages but at least that's what I've heard.
Then you can just do the PATA mod and add a PATA to microSD adapter, I'd recommend a microSD extension too so you can cut a small slit and put the slot itself on the back for example.
Also modern wireless controller adapters, for example DS3 if you need pressure sensitive buttons or just go straight to DualSense, feels great.

That's pretty much it, FMCB and hundreds of terabytes of fast storage, no need to mess around with USB or SMB.

People still think this works against Yuropoors when a 20 inch PVM is less than 200 yurobucks there?

Never really understood why people continue console wars so long after the fact. The 5th gen all brought something different to the table and its impossible to objectively say which is the best. Saturn did amazing 2d, arcade ports, quirky japan only games. Playstation was great all round with gameplay that still holds up. N64 has your classic Nintendo and great multiplayer etc. To say one is best is missing the point.

In the UK at least I don't think there ever was much of a console war between owners of different systems. The companies were competing in sales but the gamers just bought (or received) whatever and got on with it. Can't recall any banter about ps1 vs n64 when I was in school and nobody even had a saturn.

It has been almost 20 years since I planned to beat Tomb Raiders without cheating (not looking up walk throughts, not reading solutions).

So far I have beat TR: Underworld and TR: Anniversary, they were both 10/10. Easy but satisfaying.

Then I decided to go from the oldest.
I've beat Tomb Raider 1 - had to look up walk through twice :( once in Colosseum and once in Natla Mines - took me 1 week to beat it.

Currently playing TR2 and made i to the sunken ship and bean stuck on it for 6 weeks now, not gonna look up walk through this time tho.

If I beat the TR2 I will try TR3. Beating TR3 without looking up walk thoughts will probably take some time (2 years?)
