You may want to consider trying Fresh Supply for a bit if you're getting snuffed by the "instant instant" a bit too much, you can set a reaction time.
Other than that, it is just getting used to the TNT arcs and feel of the gameplay above all else. The enemies often drop a health globe or two every fight or so; the devs knew what they were getting people into.

It's not, because it doesn't do anything unless it's literally blocking their sight. It's all about outstrafing them and 'hitstunning' them.
